According to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, the ceasefire will commence at midnight, aligning with the envoys’ anticipated travel plans to Kyiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy had similarly advocated for a pause in hostilities during their visit.
The U.S. delegation, upon arrival in Moscow, was greeted by Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev. Their mission comes at a time when diplomatic attempts to resolve the war have encountered setbacks, and the intensity of fighting in the region has surged. Recently, Russian military forces have escalated drone and missile strikes on Kyiv as well as other Ukrainian locales. Amid these developments, President Zelenskiy reported that Russia had executed overnight strikes in the vicinity of Kyiv and Boryspil international airports. He suggested that these actions might be associated with the preparations for the U.S. delegation’s upcoming visit to Ukraine.
