Russia Accuses U.S. of Losing Neutrality in Ukraine Conflict Mediation

by admin477351

Russia has criticized the United States for allegedly abandoning its neutrality in mediating the Ukraine conflict, accusing Washington of intensifying pressure on Moscow through sanctions. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking in Moscow, stated that the U.S. is no longer acting as an impartial broker in the efforts to resolve the war. His comments follow recent discussions among G7 leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, who agreed to bolster measures targeting Russia’s economy, particularly focusing on the energy sector.

Since President Trump returned to office in 2025, he has been attempting to facilitate negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. However, these diplomatic efforts have hit a roadblock as Ukraine remains firm in rejecting Russia’s demands for territorial concessions, military limitations, and restrictions on Western assistance. Lavrov’s remarks underscore the mounting tension between Russia and Western countries, with Moscow viewing the U.S. actions as exacerbating the conflict rather than mediating a resolution.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused European nations of preparing for potential conflict with Russia by increasing their military budgets and expanding defense capabilities. Putin reiterated Russia’s stance that Ukraine should withdraw from the eastern Donbas region, emphasizing that Russian forces are nearing the capture of the strategic city of Kostiantynivka. He also alleged that Ukraine and its Western allies are supporting attacks on Russian infrastructure to sow instability within Russia.

The conflict, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has led to hundreds of thousands of casualties and displaced millions of people. Despite ongoing international attempts to mediate, the prospects for a negotiated settlement remain bleak. The accusations from Moscow highlight the complexities and challenges facing any potential resolution and the growing geopolitical tensions involving major world powers.
