In a bid to bolster Mongolia’s cultural heritage conservation sector, South Korea is engaging in a collaborative higher education program designed to cultivate future specialists in the field. This initiative has seen significant developments at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, where new facilities dedicated to conservation and digital documentation have been established to support the program’s goals.
The project, spearheaded by Kongju National University since 2020, has been instrumental in launching Mongolia’s first Department of Tangible Cultural Heritage Conservation Technology. This program encompasses a comprehensive approach that includes developing a specialized curriculum, upgrading laboratory facilities, training faculty, and producing educational materials in the Mongolian language.
In addition to infrastructural and curriculum advancements, South Korea is committed to fostering a transition towards locally led education. This is being achieved by training Mongolian faculty members with the aim of ensuring that the program becomes self-sustaining. This strategic move is expected to pave the way for enduring educational cooperation between South Korea and Mongolia.
The partnership’s emphasis on capacity building and sustainability reflects a long-term vision for the cultural heritage conservation sector.
